Siena Holidays in Tuscany

Discover Siena, the heart of Tuscany. This medieval city is surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves. It’s famous for the Palio di Siena, its Gothic beauty, and its UNESCO World Heritage old town.

What to See in Siena

Piazza del Campo

The Piazza del Campo is Siena’s main square and one of Italy’s most beautiful. Its shell shape and nine sections recall the ancient Council of Nine. Visit Fonte Gaia, the 14th-century fountain, and admire Palazzo Comunale and the Torre del Mangia. Climb the tower for stunning city views.

Museo Civico

Inside the Palazzo Comunale, the Museo Civico shows Siena’s artistic past. See Simone Martini’s Maestà and Lorenzetti’s Allegory of Good and Bad Government. Every room tells a story through frescoes.

Siena Cathedral

The Duomo di Siena is a Gothic masterpiece. Its marble floors and sculptures are breathtaking. Visit the BaptisteryCrypt, and Opera del Duomo Museum for more art treasures.

Santa Maria della Scala

Once a hospital for pilgrims, Santa Maria della Scala is now a museum complex. Highlights include the Pellegrinaio Hall and original sculptures from Fonte Gaia.

Pinacoteca Nazionale

The Pinacoteca Nazionale houses paintings by Duccio, Martini, and Lorenzetti. It shows how Siena’s Gothic art rivaled Florence’s Renaissance.

The Palio di Siena

The Palio di Siena is a thrilling horse race held every year on July 2 and August 16. Ten of Siena’s 17 districts compete in Piazza del Campo. Riders race bareback in colorful medieval costumes. Book terrace seats early — prices start around €350. Hotels fill up fast during Palio days.

Experience Siena

Siena is Tuscany at its best — history, art, food, and passion. Walk through its medieval streets, enjoy local cuisine, and feel the energy of the Palio. A holiday in Siena is a journey into Italy’s timeless heart.
